Therefore, we cannot conclude that the series has been cancelled based solely on the name. The word Final points to the conclusion of the story; it does not, by itself, indicate that the project will be a movie.

So, What Was the Announced Kaiju No. 8 Movie?.
It is important here to distinguish between Mission Recon and Final Chapter.
The production released in Japan on March 28, 2025 and presented internationally as Mission Recon was a compilation of the first season. It was accompanied by a new special episode titled Hoshina’s Day Off.
In other words, this movie did not pick up where the second season left off; it was a project that retold the first season. Concluding that a movie is being made instead of a third season based on the Mission Recon news would mean confusing two separate productions.
