Our Editorial Policy explains the standards we aim to follow when researching, writing, updating and correcting MovieSift content.
Our Editorial Mission
MovieSift focuses on movie sequels, returning television and streaming series, anime and manga continuations, release date developments and curated entertainment lists.
Our primary goal is to help readers understand the current status of a project without presenting speculation as confirmed information.
When readers ask questions such as “Will there be a sequel?”, “Will this show return for another season?” or “When could the next installment be released?”, we aim to explain both what is known and what remains uncertain.
Our Source Standards
MovieSift evaluates sources according to their proximity to the information being reported and their record of reliability.
Whenever possible, we prioritize information from:
- Official studios, distributors, networks, streaming services and publishers.
- Official production companies and project representatives.
- Direct statements from directors, writers, producers, actors and other people directly involved with a project.
- Original interviews published by reputable outlets.
- Established entertainment trade publications and recognized news organizations.
- Verified public statements and official social media accounts.
- Reliable secondary sources where primary information is unavailable.
Anonymous social media posts, unsourced videos, fabricated posters, fan-made trailers and unsupported claims should not be treated as confirmation.
How We Label Information
MovieSift uses different language depending on the strength of available evidence.
Confirmed
We consider information confirmed when it comes from an official rights holder, studio, network, streaming service, publisher, production company or an appropriately authoritative person directly involved with the project.
Reported
Information may be described as reported when a reputable industry or news publication has published the information but the relevant studio or rights holder has not formally announced it.
Rumored
A rumor is information that has not been sufficiently verified.
When a rumor is relevant enough to discuss, MovieSift should clearly identify it as unconfirmed rather than presenting it as fact.
Analysis or Prediction
MovieSift may provide editorial analysis about whether a sequel, season or adaptation appears likely.
Such analysis may consider factors including:
- Statements from filmmakers or cast members.
- The ending of the previous installment.
- Commercial performance.
- Audience interest.
- Availability of source material.
- Production history.
- Rights or distribution circumstances.
- The length of time since the previous installment.
An editorial prediction is not an official announcement and should be presented accordingly.
Release Dates
Release date coverage requires particular care.
MovieSift distinguishes between:
- Official release dates: Dates announced by an authoritative studio, distributor, network, streaming service or publisher.
- Reported release dates or windows: Dates reported by credible sources but not yet officially announced.
- Estimated or possible dates: Editorial estimates based on available production information or release patterns.
MovieSift should not describe an estimated date as an official release date.
If no official date exists, the article should clearly tell the reader that no official release date has been announced.
Sequel Coverage
A sequel article should answer the reader’s primary question as early as practical.
For example, if a movie sequel has not been officially confirmed, the article should state that clearly rather than forcing readers to search through the entire article for the answer.
A comprehensive sequel article may include:
- The current official status.
- Statements from creators and cast members.
- Previous attempts to develop the sequel.
- Reasons the sequel may have been delayed or abandoned.
- Relevant commercial or audience performance.
- Potential returning cast members.
- Possible story directions.
- Release date considerations.
- Meaningful recent developments.
TV and Streaming Coverage
When covering television and streaming series, we distinguish between renewal, cancellation, production and release.
A series entering development does not necessarily mean production has started, and production beginning does not necessarily establish a release date.
If a platform officially cancels a series, MovieSift should not describe another season as confirmed unless circumstances subsequently change.
Anime and Manga Coverage
Anime and manga coverage may involve publishers, production committees, animation studios, distributors, broadcasters and streaming services.
Where possible, MovieSift prioritizes official announcements and reliable reporting from the relevant companies or creators.
We do not treat unauthorized manga leaks, fan translations or anonymous social media claims as authoritative confirmation.
Headlines
Headlines should accurately represent the article.
MovieSift aims to avoid headlines that falsely imply a sequel, season, casting decision or release date has been officially confirmed.
If an article discusses a possibility, the headline should reflect that uncertainty.
Article Updates
Many MovieSift topics develop over long periods. An article originally published when a project was uncertain may need substantial updates if new information becomes available.
Where practical, important new developments should be incorporated into the existing article and the article’s updated date should reflect meaningful editorial changes.
Changing a date without materially reviewing the content is not considered a meaningful update.
Corrections
MovieSift aims to correct factual errors promptly after they are identified and verified.
Corrections may include:
- Fixing incorrect names, dates or factual claims.
- Replacing outdated information.
- Correcting incorrect attribution.
- Clarifying language that could mislead readers.
- Updating a rumor after an official confirmation or denial.

Originality
MovieSift aims to publish original editorial work.
When information originates from another publication, interview, official statement or other external source, we aim to attribute the information appropriately rather than presenting another publisher’s reporting as our own.
We do not support copying or lightly rewriting another publication’s article without adding meaningful independent editorial value.
Artificial Intelligence and Editorial Tools
MovieSift may use software and AI-assisted tools to support parts of the editorial workflow, such as research organization, language assistance, proofreading, formatting or idea development.
Such tools do not replace editorial responsibility.

Writers should avoid allowing personal, financial or commercial relationships to improperly influence editorial conclusions.
If a material conflict of interest exists, MovieSift may disclose it where relevant to the reader.
